LYMPHATIC BRUSHING

Dry brushing is a fun and easy way to rid the body of toxins that no longer serve. It can stimulate a sensation of well being by relieving stress and also give you younger looking skin. The skin is the largest detoxification organ in the body. It is often referred to as the third lung because we literally breathe through it. When it is blocked by dead skin cells or hampered by a sluggish lymphatic system it cannot efficiently do its job!

Dry brushing can be done before your morning shower. A natural bristle brush is best and ones whose bristles are not too rigid. Start by sitting and brushing the soles and tops of the feet, progressively working your way up each leg, always working toward the heart. The amount of pressure you use should be gentle at first and then firmer as you build tolerance. A good number of strokes are 7 per section. Brush all surface areas. When you reach the groin area, do 7 circles clockwise, then 7 circles counter clockwise. Repeat the same idea to the hands and arms and then do circles to the armpits. The trunk and chest should be done in the same fashion always working toward the heart. You can do circles in both directions in the middle of the stomach and chest. Don't forget the neck where we have many lymph nodes, brush downward toward the heart. Finish your routine with a full glass of water to help flush out what you moved. People often immediately feel tingling warmth and a true sensation of well being.

Dry brushing stimulates acupressure points, which has a direct link to invigorating every cell in the body. Body brushing is as important as good nutrition and exercise!

Caution: Dry brushing should not be done when there is a systemic skin infection. Also, if you have a weakened immune system, start slow, less strokes and brush pressure. Remember, less can be more.
